River Wylye
Salisbury & District Angling Club
Another dodgy day. The River Wye was still high and the weather was less than lovely. Cold and strong winds greeted me as I loaded the car. But it was time to fish.
The Wylye was welcoming. Strong sunshine showed up the river at its best. The weed swayed seductively in the clear water. I set off into the teeth of a gale, looking forward to the challenge. The casting was not pretty, but it was effective. The nasty splashy landings were disguised by the corrugated surface of the river. This was no gentle ripple; in places there were standing waves!
It was worth the journey. Even in the cold, a few suicidal Large Dark Olives hatched off and the occasional fish rose. I caught 8 fish in total, two of which were crackers. Brown trout were more evident than on previous trips. Now it's just a matter of waiting for opening day.
